In 1893 New Zealand became the first country in the world to allow women to vote. Kate Sheppard and Meri were both New Zealand suffragettes. The camellia flower also appears on the 10 dollar note next to Kate Shepherd and given to members of parliament who supported the suffrage bill (the flower is white on the ten dollar note). Deeds not words was a famous saying of the UK suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst.

From the collection of prints by New Zealand artist Angie Dennis. Printed on archival quality matte paper. Outer matt size: 352 x 278mm (11x14"). Frame size: 382 x 309mm (11x14") in White.
