This stunning baby-size mini Korowai (Maori Cloak) with tie cord, has white, green and blue teal feathers much like the colours of a paua shell.

The poutama (step-like pattern) band has both religious and educational meanings.  The steps symbolize levels of attainment and advancement.  This pattern represents the staircase that the god Tane climbed to heaven to get the three baskets of knowledge for the Maori people.

Traditionally worn for ceremonies such as Christenings.

Size : 320 x 320mm.

A stunning piece of Kiwiana art that makes a wonderful christening cloak. Hand-made in New Zealand using beautiful feathers. This is the same as a full-size modern Korowai, just scaled down. It is fully lined and the feathers wrap around to the inside.

Meaning of the taniko band:

The Poutama (step-like pattern) has both religious and educational meanings. The steps symbolize levels of attainment and advancement. This pattern represents the staircase that Tāne-nui-a-Rangi climbed to heaven to get the three baskets of knowledge for the Māori people.

Proudly made in New Zealand and has received a Maori Blessing.
